Best dressed in Cannes Film Festival 2018

Cannes Film Festival is an annual festival in Cannes,  France during which new films of various genres are previewed. Even though Met Gala happened only a few days ago, all the celebs already flew to France to showcase their fabulous outfits on the red carpet, hence in this post I wanted to share which celebrities in my opinion looked absolute best.

The Met Gala

The Met Gala also known as the Met Ball is an annual event thrown in order to raise funds  Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. It marks the grand opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibit. After the event, the exhibition runs for several months. The Met Gala is considered to be one of the most important events in the fashion world and is attended by most famous celebrities and fashion designers. Each year there’s a different theme to the gala and guests are expected to choose the outfits to match it. The dress code is set according to the theme of that year’s Costume Institute exhibition. Previous themes of the Met Gala include  China: Through the Looking Glass, Punk: Chaos to Couture and so on.

It was first held in 1948 to encourage the New York’s high society to donate. Since 1995, the event has been chaired by US Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who enlists public figures to serve as the event’s co-chairs. Past hosts have included Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and Marc Jacobs.

Met Gala is an extremely exclusive and expensive event – designer gowns and accessories that are showcased on the red carpet cost thousands as well as the tickets to the event are not affordable at all. For example, the tickets to the Met Gala 2017 cost about $30,000, or about $275,000 for a table. However, according to the New York Times, not all celebrities buy tickets for themselves, brands often pay for the table. It also is reported that A-list celebrities get offered to be paid up to a million dollars to wear a designer’s jewelry. The guest list includes only 650–700 people.

In 2016 Madonna wore one of the most controversial outfits in history of the event while the theme was ‘Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology’. She appeared in an ensemble designed by Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci exposing both her breasts and buttocks. However, Madonna stated on social media that her outfit was a political statement as well as a fashion statement, because as she said ‘when it comes to women’s rights we are still in the dark ages’.

The event includes a cocktail hour and a formal dinner. The cocktail hour begins with the guests making their way through the red carpet for their grand entrance. Then they tour the year’s special themed exhibition, and are seated before the dinner party that includes entertainment from the preeminent entertainers of the day. On the day of the event, the Metropolitan Museum of Art is closed to the general public.

The theme of the gala this year, which marks the 70th anniversary of the event, was ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’. The show put the focus on the relationship between fashion and the medieval art. Met Gala 2018 was co-chaired by Amal Clooney, Rihanna and Donatella Versace. Since Met Gala 2015, there’s a no-selfie ordinance which means that only approved photographers, reporters, and social media participants can document the event, while guests receive notices about the restriction of selfies and social media inside the gala.

Celebrities at Coachella 2018

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is one of the biggest and most known festivals in the world. It’s held annually and includes lots of performances by famous artists from many genres of music.

Since I purchased tickets to Parklife festival the other day, I’ve been looking for festival fashion inspiration – even though Parklife is still two months away. Because Coachella is such a huge event lots of celebrities as well as social media influencers attend it. I thought that there’s no better way to find fashion inspiration for the upcoming festival season than to look through outfits that celebrities wore to Coachella this year, so below are some of my favourites.

Trip to New York

As I’ve mentioned in a few previous blog post, I spent the last week in New York. I still have some blog posts coming up that will cover some of the things I did and places that I went to in more detail, but in this post I wanted to share everything that I did in that amazing city day by day, since it may be helpful to someone who is planning to visit New York.

Monday, 8th of January

The journey began. Everyone who was going to New York met up near the university in Nottingham and was taken to Heathrow airport. We had some spare time until the flight so we spent it by chilling at the airport.

We arrived in New York only around midnight so didn’t do much except from moving in to Hotel Wolcott and going to the nearest McDonald’s to get some snacks.

Tuesday, 9th of January

We woke up quite early since we were sooo excited to start exploring New York. We got ready and grabbed breakfast at Dunkin Donuts cause it was just across the street from where the hotel that we were staying in was situated.

After wandering around the streets for a bit, we went to Top of the Rock which is an observatory deck in the Rockefeller centre. It was quite pricey to get in but totally worth it because you get to see the city from up above. The view is absolutely stunning.

After taking numerous pictures of each other and the city we headed to 5th avenue to take a look at window displays of designer stores (blog post about that).

Then we headed to the Central Park. We were lucky enough to visit New York when there was snow so it truly felt like a dream.

Wednesday, 10th of January

First thing we did on Wednesday was going to the Museum of Modern Art (blog post). After looking at amazing artwork for several hours we were starving so headed towards Times Square to find a cute place to have lunch in.

Since we didn’t want to eat at a place that can be found in the UK, we were lucky enough to cross a restaurant called Planet Hollywood. It felt like a really American place and the burgers that were really delicious.

After that we headed to Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (blog post on that coming this week). We ended the day by walking along the riverside, chatting and exploring the Chelsea market but sadly both my camera and phone died so I wasn’t able to take any more pictures.

Thursday, 11th of January

On Thursday we went to Brooklyn. It for sure has a totally different vibe than Manhattan – it is way less busy and crowded. When the sun was setting we headed towards Brooklyn bridge and walked our way back to the hotel (of course after taking thousands of pictures).

After staying and chilling at the hotel for a bit, we went to Times Square. It honestly looks insane at night. We were just standing there and admiring all the lights probably longer that an hour.

Friday, 12th of January

We started our morning by visiting Cha Cha Matcha. Since I’m a big lover of everything matcha I got a matcha latte and a matcha croissant which honestly was sooo good.

Then we went to the MET. The building looks amazing both inside and out and the gallery is h u g e. You would probably need two days to look at everything.

After walking so much during previous days our feet were so sore that we couldn’t do much that day. We stayed at the hotel the rest of the afternoon and went to town for dinner later but that’s pretty much it.

Saturday, 13th of January

27043561_1770283813003347_533736307_nOn Saturday we basically spent the whole day shopping and wandering around the streets. We headed to the airport at around 5 pm and flew back to England.

All in all, I honestly fell in love with New York. It’s such an amazing city and I hope to come back there in my nearest future because there’s still so much I want to do and see. 5 days in a city like New York is not enough, especially because one’s energy is limited and some days we wanted to do and see more but couldn’t ’cause we were exhausted.
